You just got the news that you’re going to be a bridesmaid – congratulations! Though it’s a great title to have, it’s no secret that being in a bridal party can also be tough and a lot of work. However, there are certain things that can help make the entire process easier and the big day a success. Below are tips for being the best bridesmaid your bride could ever ask for!
Always Plan Ahead
The best bridesmaid is one who is proactive and starts planning early on. You may have been asked to be in the wedding party about a year in advance, but don’t be fooled by this time frame. It may seem like a lot of time, but there is a lot to get done before the big day. You should keep yourself organized and have the bridesmaids’ contact information, a timeline of the events, a planner or to-do list, and a budget of the wedding-related expenses. These include party favors, the bachelorette party, and picking up bouquets. Additionally, you should always prepare for the worst to ensure everything goes right and to minimize the amount of things that could go wrong. This will prevent you from stressing out later on, and will allow you to make any changes if unexpected events come your way.
Be a Team Player
You’re not the bride or the only bridesmaid, so make sure you’re not running the wedding. You are still an important part of it though, as is everyone else. Don’t try be THE best bridesmaid in the party and let it become a competition. Instead, make sure you’re checking in equally with the bride and the Maid of Honor, seeing if there’s anything you could do to help with the rest of the bridesmaids. Disagreements are bound to happen among girls spending a ton of time together, but remember you’re all there for your best friend at the end of the day. The same goes with being a team player with the bridesmaid dress that is chosen. It already is extremely difficult to find a bridesmaid style that looks good on a bunch of different bodies, so be open to suggestions and give honest feedback.
Stay By The Bride’s Side
As a bridesmaid, one of your responsibilities is making sure other people are happy and enjoying themselves – especially the bride herself. If you think being a bridesmaid is stressful, imagine all the things the bride has to prep. She already has enough to worry about, so stand close to her both physically and emotionally. Offer to go with her the dress fittings and venue viewings, or offer her a fun break away from all the wedding planning. Remember you were a close friend first before becoming a bridesmaid, so keep that title and allow her to express her stress, fears, and frustrations with you. No matter where life takes the both of you after the wedding, you’ll always will still be best friends and there for each other.
