Managing Anxiety Before Prom


As your prom is right around the corner, it is totally normal to have pre-prom nerves or anxiety. There are a lot of things to plan and things to buy, and this can lead to some serious stress. We have given some of our best tips for prom prep to get you physically ready for prom, but what about mentally ready! Self-care is essential to having an amazing prom night, so be sure that the fun isn’t lost in your stress. We looked into some ideas and tips for how to de-stress and get excited for prom in a healthy well. Here are Faviana’s tips for Managing Anxiety Before Prom!

Organize, Organize and Organize

The key to having an amazing and stress free prom night is organizing everything in advance. Book your appointments, get your dress fitted and plan your pre-prom picture spot as soon as possible, and get your friends on board. Create a group chat with your best friends and make sure everyone is clear on locations and place a few days prior, to avoid any last minute drama.

A few days before prom try on your dress and shoes to be sure everything fits, that way if there are any issues you will have time to set them straight. Also, if possible, see if you can have a friend or a hairstylist try your prom ‘do before the big day, to ensure it is what you want. Test out your makeup routine as well, and be sure to buy any spare makeup you may need for touch ups.

Not only will this help you to look and feel your best at prom, but it is also a great way to de-stress! Try to fit in some exercise each day, even if it’s just a brisk walk around the block. The day of prom, go for a short run or walk before starting to get ready, this will help to clear your head and remove unneeded stress. Make sure to also stay hydrated!

Make Time for Sleep

Getting enough sleep is the key to a healthy body, and looking your best. Make sure you are getting those extra few hours in for the nights before prom, so you can wake up refreshed. The night before prom try to get to sleep early, and spend some time doing yoga or meditating to get mentally ready for the fun day ahead.

Even through prom may seem like the biggest day of your life, the most important part of prom is having a good time. Try to let go of friendship drama, boy drama or life drama in order to focus on making fun memories. Clear up that silly fight you had last week with your best friend, tell your mom you are so thankful she spent hours dress shopping with you, and take some time to celebrate yourself as well.

Self-care is essential for everyday, but especially leading up to a big event. The key is to take a deep breath, prep for success, and focus on what is most important: having fun!
