The Colors Of Fall

Time to pack away the pastels and banish the sandals to that box under the bed—Autumn’s here and it’s time to switch fashion gears.

Fall starts mid-September, with the Autumn Equinox on September 22, but really kicks into high gear when we turn the clocks back an hour the first week of October. Suddenly it’s dark by 5:00 and there’s a chill in the air. The leaves turn fiery shades of red, orange and yellow, and some mornings you wake up to a silvery layer of frost stretched across the lawn. In fact, the Autumn spectrum of colors is so gorgeous, we thought you should bring a little nature into your closet.

Orange

This isn’t your sunny citrus orange, we’re talking a deeper shade of pumpkin. Whether it’s a cozy cashmere scarf or a spicy pair of Michael Kors skinnies, this color will warm up your look.

Midnight blue

Maybe it’s the crisp evening air, but the Autumn sky always looks so much darker than it does in the Summer months. This inky blue can be incorporated in a high-fashion inspired gown with a smattering of rhinestones across the bodice, replicating the stars in the sky, or casually, in a navy blue puffer down coat.

Black

Aside from the brightest days of summer, black should be a wardrobe staple for every woman. Whether it’s a body-con leather dress, like Kristen Stewart is wearing, or a classic, sparkly, sequined gown, black makes a statement.

Red

Fire-engine red is sexy, romantic, fiery, and dares all in its path to look. And the good thing about red is a little goes a long way. Depending on your comfort level, you can go with just a streak of crimson lipstick, accessorize with an adorable Kate Spade bag or red lips headband, or go full throttle in a sassy red cocktail dress.

Brown

Contrary to what you might believe, earth tones can be very alluring. After all, who doesn’t like chocolate? Creamy cocoa-colored velvets, earthy mohairs, and rich brown leathers all go great with the season.
