New Year’s Resolutions for the Glamour Girl

While everyone and their mother is resolving to lose that last ten pounds or quit smoking, we’ve come up with a list of ways for you to get in touch with your inner glamour girl this New Year’s Eve.

1.) Quit worrying about what other people think about your look

When it comes right down to it, yours is the only opinion that really matters, when it comes down to style and appearance. As the super-glam Dita Von Teese said in her column for XOJane.com, “You can be a juicy, ripe peach and there’s still going to be someone who doesn’t like peaches. So you can either submit to someone’s criticism of you, or you can get on with the business of being your own amazing self who attracts other like-minded people that appreciate you.”

2.) Practice random acts of kindness

When Ann Curry suggested we honor the victims of the Newtown shooting by performing 26 acts of kindness, I don’t know if she expected it to go viral, but it did. More popular than a kitten video, people started documenting their acts on social media, and the idea snowballed. The fact is, doing good not only aids the people you’re helping, it helps you feel better about yourself. And when you feel better, you look better. You smile, you glow, and you attract people into your orbit.

3.) Don’t be afraid of a little glitz

So many of us walk around in boring, muted neutrals. Blah. We’re here to tell you that a little bling never hurt a thing. Whether it’s a daring metallic dress, a gown with just a sprinkling of sequins, a simply layer of shimmering luminizer across your brow bone—there’s no time like new years to bust out of that dull rut and embrace your inner dazzle.

4.) Take care of yourself

It seems that regardless of how old we are, we’re always busy. Whether it’s work or kids, or even school, there never seems to be enough time. Which is why it’s important to make yourself a priority. This year, vow to get a check-up and actually follow through. Go to the dentist. Take a nap once in a while! Shut off the computer, the phone, and the TV and treat yourself to a nice relaxing bath.

5.) Tell the people you love that you love them!

This may not sound like very glamorous advice, but expressing your emotions (especially the positive ones) can turn around not only your day, but your loved ones’ days as well. Just thinking about how much you care about someone, whether it’s your kids, your partner, your parents, or your friends, starts a positive stream of thoughts, and before you know it, you’re smiling, they’re smiling, everybody’s happy! And really, is there anything more glamorous than a smile? We think not.
